65/ Professor Lowe had been appealing for a wider public appreciation of the importance of prehistoric investigation. "The more closely we study these prehistoric remains the more convinced we become that our major problems concerning man's development are to be solved in Africa," he said. "I can assure you that the age of man in the area in which we find ourselves at the moment is a vast one. "This importance imposes upon us great responsabilities," he continued. "If we are earnest in any attempt we may make to reconstruct this great story we have responsabilities which we cannot shirk.
