"I think psychedelics are a gift of the gods," Feilding said, waving her hands about. What we now consider the psychedelic renaissance can be dated to around four or five years later, when the drugs began to show promise for treating addiction, depression, and other disorders. Modern therapeutic 5-meo-dmt applications typically involve careful preparation, professional supervision, and integration support - quite different from historical shamanic use

Recent research at Johns Hopkins (2019) shows it creates a rapid reset of brain connectivity patterns, particularly in areas linked to emotional processing and self-awareness (Source). Unlike common assumptions that it simply "gets you high," this compound creates profound neurological changes that can last weeks or months after a single dose. However, this is an extremely potent medicine demanding immense respect - roughly 4-6 times stronger than regular DMT. Many experience complete dissolution of ego boundaries, which some find deeply liberating while others find terrifying. These acute effects usually last minutes, though some people report lingering physical sensitivity for several hours afterwar

"Our results revealed that when a volunteer was on DMT there was a marked dysregulation of some of the brain rhythms that would ordinarily be dominant. The brain switched in its mode of functioning to something altogether more anarchi

In this episode, we dive into the unspoken and messy realities of working with psychedelics. 👉Looking for daily integration support or a legal microdose option? Whether you're navigating your own healing or supporting others, this episode aims to validate your experience and encourage you to keep moving forward. Kyle Buller, co-founder of Psychedelics Today, had his life transformed at 16 after a traumatic snowboarding accident left him with a profound near-death experience (NDE). Many of us experience ego death through psychedelics, but what happens when someone actually dies and returns to share their insights? It serves as a guide for those curious about 5-MeO-DMT, nervous system healing, and the ongoing process of integrating such profound experiences into daily life.

In line with its affinity for serotonin 5-HT1A receptors, 5-MeO-DMT is extremely potent at suppressing the firing of dorsal raphe nucleus serotonin neurons. 5-MeO-DMT has been described as the most powerful psychedelic and by Michael Pollan as the "Mount Everest of psychedelics". The experiences of 5-MeO-DMT have also been related to the experience of ecstatic seizures. In spite of this however, some have described the experiences as orgasmic, ecstatic, and blissful, whereas others have described them as terror or "information overwhelm

Extracts of toad toxin, containing bufotenin and other bioactive compounds, have been used in some traditional medicines such as ch'an su (probably derived from Bufo gargarizans), which has been used medicinally for centuries in Chin

It wasn’t until the mid-1980s that toad secretions became a popular source for this psychedelic compound. Concerns have been raised about the potential use of 5-MeO-DMT in medicine due to the extreme and frequently challenging natures of the experiences. Beckley Psytech in collaboration with King's College London is evaluating the safety and tolerability of intranasal 5-MeO-DMT in healthy subjects, in 5-meo-dmt a phase 1 stud

After the love and bliss from the experience faded, she was left to process a lifetime worth of repressed pain. We discuss practical considerations, such as guidelines for safely tapering off SSRIs before embarking on a psychedelic experience and navigating 5-meo-dmt contraindications between psychedelics and antidepressants. In this episode, Ben Malcolm (the Spirit Pharmacist) brings us into the intersection of psychedelics and pharmacolog

If you’re prepared for them, they can provide another opportunity for your consciousness to re-connect with and process the journey, even offering deeper insight and healing potential. Reactivations can be understood as reverberations of the experience. These are anything from a faint glimmer of the 5-MeO-DMT experience to a full-blown journey. Reactivations occur in approximately 15 to 20% of 5-meo-dmt participants. The peak mystical experience is often "ineffable," beyond that which the mind can comprehend. As you integrate, give your mind permission to not be able to "understand" the experienc

Insets show the average ratio between stillness (C) Mean time spent (left panel) and the number of events (right panel) for the ‘Still’ behaviour and ‘Altered behaviours’ (see Supp Fig. 1). For the slow and mid gamma analyses, only recording units that had at least one electrode containing the respective gamma were included. Experimental units in which the ICV injection showed any signs of leaking or injection resistance (due to cannula clogging) were completely excluded from all analyses. When needed supplemental doses of ketamine and xylazine were applied to maintain anaesthesia. Briefly, anaesthesia was induced with inhaled isoflurane at 5% followed by intraperitoneal ketamine and xylazine at respective doses of 100 mg/kg and 8 mg/kg. Experimental animals were subjected to surgery for electrode implantation as described in Souza et al.45.
MeO-DMT effects on waking behaviour
As expected, in the vehicle condition, LFPs and MUA showed typical signatures of both wakefulness and NREM sleep, with the latter characterised by frequent OFF-periods during LFP slow waves (Fig. 2.a-c, Supplementary Movie 4). To this end, we carefully inspected the local field potentials (LFP) and corresponding multi-unit activity (MUA) in the primary visual cortex (V1) recorded in a subset of animals. No clear-cut changes were found in the coupling of slow waves and high frequencies, although the modulation index for theta/gamma coupling in the occipital derivation was slightly decreased after 5-MeO-DMT (Supplementary Fig. 2), consistent with the strong attenuation of theta oscillations. To further interrogate the effects of the compound on cortical activity, we calculated the modulation index across frequencies. The differences in wake EEG power between 5-MeO-DMT and vehicle were observed primarily within one hour after the injection (Supplementary Fig. 1e-f). As non-oscillatory scale-free activity is 5-meo-dmt considered an additional reliable marker of brain state34,35, we compared the spectral slope calculated for the 20–120 Hz frequency range between the condition
