Sacked Police Officer Given Suspended Sentence For Domestic Abuse

A former policeman has been given an eight-month suspended prison sentence for abusing his previous partner.
Kyle Millar, 28, whose address was provided as c/o Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) headquarters, Knock, Belfast, last month admitted one charge of domestic abuse between February 2022 and March 2023.
Millar, who had actually been suspended on full pay before being sacked last month, in a relationship with his victim for one year and seven months when the abuse happened.
Sentencing at Londonderry Magistrates' Court on Friday, District Judge Oonagh Mullan said his offending had had a huge effect on the female.
Gambling addiction
At a previous hearing in January, the court was told Millar had subjected the lady to "mental abuse" by calling her names and buffooning her look.

She informed Millar: "It was an extremely unfortunate event which has influenced on both of you. The hurt celebration underwent treatment by you which she need to not have undergone.
"Because of that you are now in a regrettable scenario in that you are no longer in work."
Millar was provided eight months in jail suspended for three years.
Speaking after Millar's sentencing, the PSNI said he had actually been a serving officer at the time of his upseting and had been dismissed after a "quick internal investigation" its expert standards department.
"Anyone who devotes domestic abuse criminal activities of any nature in our community, no matter who they are or what function they play in society, they will be examined completely and brought before the courts," Det Ch Insp Claire Gilbert stated.
