Professor Lowe had been appealing for a wider public appreciation of the importance of prehistoric investigation. "The more closely we study these prehistoric remains the more convinced we become that our major problems concerning man's development are to be solved in Africa," he said. "I can assure you that the age of man in the area in which we find ourselves at the moment is a vast one. In relation to European countries wa are very immature, but I am convinced that the focus of attention regarding the study of Prehistoric Man will gradually shift and make Africa more and more important. "This importance imposes upon us great responsabilities," he continued. "If we are earnest in any attempt we may make to reconstruct this great story we have responsabilities which we cannot shirk.
